Auspicious Symbols

I am not Buddhist, but I have a friend who is. She is moving to a new home soon and I would like to make a quilt with the 8 auspicious symbols as a house warming gift.

Would this be an appropriate gift from a non-Buddhist friend like me? I would not want to ruin the good feelings of the quilt by using symbolism not meant for such a thing.
